Description

Lions of London by Ed Robinson

Ed Robinson’s bold and vibrant media compositions are a blend of printed letters, watercolours, acrylics, and oils – a style he first experimented with 35 years ago when he was still a student. He works with a fairly light palette, but increasingly is becoming emboldened, and through the mixed media, his paintings explore both light and texture.

After completing a graphic design and illustration course at Great Yarmouth School of Art (now Norwich School of Art), he moved to London to work for the leading design and advertising agencies. Here he obtained several national and international design awards and became a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers.

Today, his work can be found in some of the UK’s most prestigious galleries and in private collections in the UK, Europe, and the USA.

Landseer’s Lion Statues in Trafalgar Square. The famous statues of four lions in Trafalgar Square, surrounding Nelson’s Column, are commonly known as the ‘Landseer Lions’ after the artist who created them. It had not been intended that Landseer would sculpt the lions – the commission had gone first to the sculptor Thomas Milnes, now totally obscure, and he had made a set of four stone lions for the site.
