Hummingbird Study – Original 2018 by Katy Jade Dobson
Katy Jade Dobson is a UK based oil painter, originally from Yorkshire but currently resides in the town of Lincoln.
Katy spent her childhood feeding her love for art with a self-taught approach to drawing and painting, focusing largely on ethereal portraits or detailed sketches, only then pursued this throughout her educated life to the University of Lincoln. After working in bars for 2 years, Katy began painting in a number of mediums from acrylic to watercolours in mixed media canvas pieces on the side, often attending art events and fairs with her work. The positive reaction to Katys wildlife work led to a large shift towards oil paints as the medium of choice. After finding the rich tones and infinite possibilities with texture, oils became the fast medium of choice and thereafter became a huge part of Katys development and work as an artist.
Inspired by the ethereal qualities of Odilon Redon and further by his use of vivid colour, Katy descended into opulent oil paintings of wildlife scenes and subjects of nature and animals. In a spontaneous move to portraiture, Katy worked on a series of iconic women, all eclectic in their abstract colour qualities and heavily embellished, adorned with tactile marks and brush strokes. This collection features in Cliché magazine and on the cover of The Journal magazine. Further admiration for elegance and richness of palette brought Katy to combine these loves to create original oil paintings with a plethora of colour, and a blend of drama, harmony, presence and dissolve.
