Description

Sombre Saul by Jos Haigh

Jos Haigh, a scientist by training, is an enthusiastic artist with a big, bright and bold style. She enjoys experimenting with unconventional combinations and creating the unexpected, believing that all colours can go together. Jos paints in acrylics and watercolours switching between the two depending on theme and mood. Although self-taught, she is constantly researching and practising new techniques. In 2016 she was selected among the finalists in a ‘New Artist Competition’ run by one of the country’s leading art publishing houses and is delighted now to have joined the Buckingham stable to artists.

“Sombre Saul” is a great example of Jos’ style as an artist, with a great level of detail in the work married with abstract and ecclectic use of colour that helps give the piece personality.

“I am an enthusiastic artist.  Big, bright and bold is my style; I can’t seem to tone it down really, in fact I’m getting slightly too exuberant occasionally.

I enjoy experimenting with unconventional combinations and creating the unexpected. I believe all colours go together. My motto is, it really is:

…don’t be afraid to experiment.  It’s not brain surgery – no-one will die!

I paint in both acrylics and watercolours.  I switch between the two depending on the theme and my mood. The acrylic art is usually larger than the watercolour paintings. The dog portraits are always in watercolour as I find this the best medium to capture that ‘certain something’ in their character. Although self-taught, I’m constantly researching and practising new techniques.”
