Hakuna Matata (The Lion King – Premium Canvas by Mark Davies

My focus over the past year or so has been on transforming the quality of production to create a premium product that looks great on the gallery wall and would ultimately lead to increased print sales. The results have been amazing, not just the take up by affiliates but most importantly the sell through rates and subsequent reordering. What I am proud of is the first editions to go each time are the large hand embellished prints, I never seem to be free from glitter! I have wanted to offer a premium canvas print edition for a good while, where I release a striking image but as an ultra low edition where every element has a real sense of class about it. So here it is!

‘Find Your Way’ perfectly fits within my ‘Love Knows No Bounds’ collection where the primary focus is the bond between the lead characters in the scene, portraying a beautiful and powerful connection that is amplified by the magical detailing that personifies my work. My sole reason for taking on this subject was to showcase the bond between Father and Son and my narrative that drove this piece is a very personal one (have a listen to ‘Fade In / Fade Out’ by Nothing More). I am sure that many will be drawn to the image for similar reasons which is great to know, yet the aim was also to create a truly beautiful scene that can enjoyed on a number of levels; by doing justice for the fans of ‘The Lion King’ as well as just simply bring able to be enjoyed as a really pretty piece.

What we see is the point where the young lion cub sets out tentatively under the proud watch of his Father. The magical details that surround the characters portray this sense of pride and love whilst the inclusion of the butterflies represent the sense of journey as well as freedom and are a poignant detail that is becoming more and more present within my works. This was a piece that I didn’t want to cram full of details and references but instead focus purely on the reason that the film struck a chord when I first saw it all those years ago, that wonderful bond.
