Captain America Original by Deborah Cauchi

Deborah is a figurative artist who has a “healthy” obsession with Lego and vintage toys; inspiration comes from her own experiences relating to human emotions and memories of childhood.

She likes to take that long forgotten or much loved object and give it a moment in the spotlight. Paint is applied both figuratively and abstractly. Whilst all her paintings are representational, they are not limited to a particular style and the experimentation of the paint plays a major role in her art.

“Working primarily in oils my paintings are inspired by the human figure, portraiture and my love of nostalgic imagery. I take inspiration from vintage magazines, adverts and items from days gone by and through my work I explore deeply personal, psychological issues and emotional responses to contemporary life, I also draw on my own experiences relating to human emotions and memories of childhood. Paint is applied both figuratively and abstractly. Captain America is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover dated March 1941) from Timely Comics, a predecessor of Marvel Comics. Captain America was designed as a patriotic supersoldier who often fought the Axis powers of World War II and was Timely Comics’ most popular character during the wartime period. The popularity of superheroes waned following the war, and the Captain America comic book was discontinued in 1950, with a short-lived revival in 1953. Since Marvel Comics revived the character in 1964, Captain America has remained in publication.
