Product Description

Baby “Oh” Orangutan by Edge Sculptures

Matt Buckley, the designer and sculptor of the unique Edge Sculpture range of contemporary sculptures has created this wonderful sculpt of a Baby Orangutan of which 20% of the proceeds will go towards the Jim Cronin Memorial Fund for Primate Welfare and Conservation.

Shelley Fletcher, Chief Executive of the Jim Cronin Memorial Fund, has been incredibly encouraging and informative outlining the ongoing plight and continuation of Jim’s exceptionally noble legacy. The Organisations continual mission is to strive toward the rescue and rehabilitation of both the Great Apes and Monkeys who face the very real challenges of survival as the developing world continues to impact and ultimately endanger their species as it almost silently encroaches upon their habitats.

We say silently because a very strong part of the Organisations remit is to not only provide physical aid and action but to also bring to the attention of the general public the actual threat towards our not too distant cousins and to also educate and make people aware that such fine creatures face endangerment and struggle every day.

With this in mind we feel very privileged that as a company we can also help in some small way by donating a set percentage of every sale towards this literally ‘Great’ fund.

This piece will be an ascending number edition, which means that every Orangutan Baby will come marked with an individual number, signed by Matt Buckley along with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Traditionally sculpted from clay, hand-cast from our special blend of marble stone and hand-painted in our studios in Shropshire, these exclusive sculptures are made to order, so please expect up to 8 weeks for the delivery of your baby!

Each sculp has been originally sculpted from clay, which allows the sculptor to be freer, giving the pieces the dynamic and organic fee, stylised by Edge Sculpture. The finished clay sculp ‘masters’ are then taken to be moulded , and each subsequent piece has been carefully hand cast from this mould using ceramice polystone, which allows for faithful reproduction of detail and texture applied to the original sculpt. the finishing touch is the skillful application of hand painting and finishing, which brings the sculpt to lift. the end result is a center piece and talking point in anyone’s living room!

Matt  Buckley started off his sculpting career over 20 years ago having been afforded the opportunity to hone his craft by following in the footsteps of his step father, Robert Harrop, by working on the ‘Country Companions’ and later named ‘ Doggie People’ range which have resided successfully to this day within the ‘giftware’ and ‘collectible’ industry for well over 25 years themselves.

Licensed figurines that Matt has both sculpted personally and directed include the Beano and Dandy, Camberwick Green, Roald Dahl, Bagpuss, 2000 AD, The Magic Roundabout, Mr Benn and Gerry Anderson’s Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Stingray, with many pieces being continually produced to this date.

Matt remains the Creative Director of Robert Harrop Designs LTD and indeed the skills and ability to manufacture quality figurines from within their family run company in Shropshire has enabled this very new collection of work to become a reality and Edge Sculpture to thrive.

This is a very new collection and very much at the beginning of its creative evolution and Matt indeed looks  forward to designing, sculpting and producing  many new concepts well into the future.

Rain drops in forests and hearts that are smitten;

By copper haired primates as gentle as kittens;

Red haired Orangutans with vines as swings;

These I must name as my favourite things.
